These days it’s all about beauty, looking good and feeling great. This being the case we’ve been asking ourselves about the price of ‘beauty’ and the harmful affects on your skin. With life getting busier and busier it’s all too easy to go for the big brands that are readily available in the high street shops. However what many are unaware of are the potentially harmful chemical ingredients commonly found in your typical high street brand of make-up.

Some of the most harmful include:

PHTHALATES

PROPYLENE GLYCOL

FORMALDEHYDE (LOOK OUT FOR: formalin, formic aldehyde, oxomethane, oxymethylene)

HYDROQUINONE (LOOK OUT FOR: 1,4-Benzenediol, 1,4-Dihydroxybenzene, P-Dioxybenzene, 4-Hydroxyphenol, P-Hydroxyphenol,1,4Benzenediol.)

MERCURY - mercurous chloride, thimerosal.

LEAD - can still be found in hair dye and red lipsticks (not ours!)

SODIUM LAURYL SULFATE / SODIUM LAURETH SULFATE.

These are only a handful of the chemicals that are found in our make-up bags. Some of these chemicals are known to cause a number of skin nasties, including contact dermatitis, skin irritation and inflammation as well as irritation of the eyes, scalp and lungs.

Besides from these worrying physical effects, Paraben rich products have also been linked to causing irregular cell growth, sometimes leading to cancer, as well as problems within the ovaries and thyroid glands.
